What is sexual assault?
Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual contact meaning the intentional touching either directly or through the clothing, of the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of any person with intent to abuse, humiliate, harass, degrade or arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person. Any sexual attention committed by force, threats, bribes, emotional or physical manipulation, pressure, tricks, or violence. This includes rape, child molestation, incest, and sexual harassment. Sexual assault is a crime of violence, motivated by anger and the need for power over someone more vulnerable. A friend, teacher, counselor, youth minister, nurse, priest, preacher, family member, date, boyfriend, husband, neighbor, repairman, acquaintance, stranger, landlord, boss, or co-worker may sexually assault a person or child; selection is based on vulnerability not attractiveness, appearance, or behavior. Sexual assault of any type is never the victim's fault.
