Woman Injured in One Vehicle Crash on Coles Chapel Road

Posted on Mar 24, 2009

A young woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Coles Chapel Road in Sparta shortly before noon on a Friday.  The driver lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road.

Trooper David Hickey with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said that Cecilia Nicole Coman-Bratescu, an 18-year-old woman, was driving south on Coles Chapel Road in a gray 2004 Hyundai Accent.

According to Hickey’s preliminary report, Coman-Bratescu was trying to negotiate a curve when she reportedly crossed the centerline and veered off the road.  Her vehicle hit an embankment and rolled over at least once before coming to a stop in the ditch.  The Hyundai Accent was demolished in the accident.

Coman-Bratescu was taken to Cookeville Regional Hospital for treatment for her injuries.  Her condition was not available at the time of the article and the severity of her injuries are not known.

The Hyundai Accent sat in the ditch waiting to be towed after it was destroyed in the incident involving Coman-Bratescu.

Hickey said that it appeared as though Coman-Bratescu was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and that the vehicle’s airbags did deploy.  The accident is still under investigation.
