Two Teens Injured in South Nashville Crash

Posted on Feb 17, 2009

Two middle Tennessee teenagers were injured on the morning of Friday, February, 13, 2009, following an accident that destroyed their vehicle in south Nashville.

According to Ann Pete, her son, Jessie, and his friend Evan, were driving to the store to purchase a snack when the two 19-year-old young men missed a curve on Amalie Drive, spun off the road into a yard and hit a tree.

“He’s got a little bit of head injury and neck injury.  We think he’s going to be all right,” said Pete regarding her son’s condition.

However, Evan sustained severe head injuries and Pete said that she can’t even recognize him due to the severity of his injuries.

Rony Cooper heard the accident from across the street and called the police.  “You heard an initial slam, and that’s what scared me.   That’s what woke me up and then (I heard) a horrific explosion,” said Cooper.

The boys had been traveling in a Nissan Acura, which was split and completely destroyed by the accident.  Witnesses of the collision said it was unbelievable that both boys survived the crash.

“I couldn’t believe that he was alive.  He was awake.  He was shaking,” said Pete about her son, Jessie.

“You just wouldn’t think anyone could survive an accident like that.  It doesn’t seem possible,” said Cooper.

Both of the young men are recovering from their injuries at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
