Teen Killed in Tennessee Car Crash

Posted on Jul 06, 2009

Gabe Brewer, a 17-year-old boy from Murfreesboro, was killed Saturday afternoon on July 4th, from injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident at approximately 3:15 AM on Baker Road, according to a state trooper.

He was a passenger in a wreck that occurred about two miles from the Blackman community, said Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Marvin.

Eighteen-year-old Joshua Ingram was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, when his car veered off the right side of the road and spun into a mailbox, which hit the driver’s rear door where Brewer had been sitting.

Brewer was treated at the scene of the crash before being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he died approximately 11 hours later.

Ingram and the passenger riding in the front were not injured.

Ingram claimed that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel.  According to Marvin, some of the contributing factors in the fatal accident included failure to maintain the lane of travel and possibly speeding.

There have been 17 traffic fatalities this year in Rutherford County.
