Recruiter killed in motorcycle accident

375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs

4/19/2009 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- An Air Force Recruiting Service Airman was killed in a motorcycle accident near Martin, Tenn., the evening of April 17.

Staff Sgt. Kirby Weaver, 26, was assigned to the 345th Recruiting Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and is survived by his wife and two children.

Sergeant Weaver performed recruiting duties in Tennessee, which is part of a 100,000-mile area covered by the squadron that includes eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, northeastern Arkansas, western Tennessee, North Western Louisiana, northern Mississippi and Paducah, Ky.

"This is a tragedy and our hearts go out to the Weaver family," said Lt. Col. Michael Romero, 345th RCS commander. "Kirby was an incredible Airman who took on recruiting in order to give kids just like him the same opportunity that he received when he joined the Air Force."

A viewing is scheduled April 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with funeral services April 21 at 2 p.m., both at the Johnson-Williams Funeral Home, 239 E Main St., Newbern, Tenn. People may e-mail condolences to johnsonwilliams@bellsouth.net.
