Motorcyclist Injured in Greene County Accident

Posted on Feb 11, 2009

A motorcyclist was injured in a crash on the afternoon of Friday, February 6, 2009, after the motorcycle collided with a car on the West Andrew Johnson Highway near Homestead Restaurant.

A Greene County 911 dispatcher told responding Greenville firefighters and volunteers from the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad by radio that the motorcycle rider was “lying in the roadway and not moving.”

According to emergency responders at the crash scene, the motorcyclist appeared to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Emergency personnel said that the accident involved a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Ford van with a government license plate.

Witnesses said that the driver of the van was not injured.

A Greene County-Greenville Emergency Medical Services ambulance, Greeneville police and Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper James Fillers also responded to the accident.

The motorcycle crash and the following investigation caused traffic to back up westbound on the West Andrew Johnson Highway.

GPD Officer Clifford Lawing was still investigating the accident late Friday afternoon.

At the time of the article, the names of the victims had not been released to the public.

In Greene County, there are thousands of motorcycle crashes each year.  According to the Tennessee Department of Safety, there were 4,476 motorcycle crashes in the county, which is the latest figure available.  That same year, there were 275,466 motorcycle accidents throughout the state.
