Family Questions Murfreesboro Accident Case Involving 11-Year-Old Girl

Posted on Mar 09, 2009

The special prosecuting attorney heading up the case involving former Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Ron Killings who killed an 11-year-old girl in a car crash recently met with the girl’s family.

Lakeisha White was killed in July 2008 in a car accident caused by Killings.  There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this case, as the family believes that Murfreesboro Police officers are partly responsible for aiding in an attempted “cover-up.”  The crash report regarding the fatal accident that resulted in the death of White failed to mention alcohol bottles at the scene of the crash or witness statements of people who said they saw Killings dispose of alcohol.

The White family told Joe Baugh, the prosecuting attorney, that Commander Sgt. Sam Campbell, the initial lead investigator of the crash is “guilty of filing a false report” concerning what happened at Bradyville Pike the night of July 17, 2008.

Rose Collier, White’s god-grandmother, said that Baugh mentioned that “there’s no proof that Campbell filed the report because it wasn’t signed.”  Collier went on to say that she feels like all the blame for the events the night White was killed in the crash have been unjustly laid on Killings.

A recent Murfreesboro Police Department report regarding the July 2008 accident has the signatures of both Campbell and an MPD supervisor.

Campbell notated in his report that Killings “appeared normal” when police arrived at the crash scene and that “neither alcohol nor drugs” were present.

The White family has requested from the beginning that the Tennessee Highway Patrol conduct an independent investigation into the fatal accident in 2008.
