Murfreesboro Police have reported that the driver who crashed her car into an occupied duplex at approximately 4:00 AM Saturday, February, 21, 2009, on North Tennessee Boulevard has died.
The driver, Elizabeth Mangrum, 19, of East Clark Boulevard and of Columbia, died from her injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, according to spokesman Kyle Evans. She was driving north on North Tennessee Boulevard when she lost control of her car just past New Lascassas Pike and smashed into a duplex. No one inside the building was injured.
“The vehicle left the roadway traveling through several yards before crossing North Tennessee Boulevard and striking an occupied house at 1209 N. Tennessee Blvd.,” said Evans.
Mangrum was treated by paramedics before being transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was flown by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt where she later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.
An investigation is being conducted by members of the Fatal Accident Crash Team.
One of the duplex’s residents said that the accident sounded like an explosion and he didn’t know what had blown up. He walked out his back door and discovered that bricks had been knocked off the front bedroom of his duplex and there was a hole inside the front bedroom. Glass had also shattered in windows and cracks lined the outside of the building.
Another resident extinguished the small fire that had ignited as a result of the collision.
Mangrum’s death is the third traffic fatality this year in Rutherford County.
