Traffic Deaths Down - but for how long?

The National Safety Council's data on traffic deaths for 2008 show a dramatic 9% drop. Some part (not all) of the reduction was due to reduced driving because of gas prices, but overall the 2008 death rate was at its lowest since the 1920's. Still, there were 39,800 vehicle related deaths in 2008, too many considering the advances that have been made in auto safety.  It's hard to imagine a tragedy like this happening to you, or someone close to you. Unfortunately, we meet people every week who have have lost someone. When that happens, it doesn't make any difference if the death rate has come down. For you, it's 100%.
