The Best Possible Choice in a Law Firm

They made my life easier.

My case was won because my attorney kept fighting.

I could not ask for a better experience.

I didn't have a big case, but it didn't make any difference in how I was treated.

Jury Duty

Dilbert JurorsDilbert Jury

Sometimes trials go on a little longer than jurors like.  :) This cartoon by Scott Adams is a good example of how it can be frustrating for jurors who feel they are not really doing justice.  Every case in our office that is filed in court cries out for fair play and justice, or we wouldn't file suit. Our job as attorneys is to provide jurors what they need to do justice, help them understand what justice means in our client's case, and put them in a position where they do the right thing and can go home proud to have served as a juror.

I was serving as a juror on a civil case (here in Southern Oregon) when a juror brought this Dilbert strip in. We all chuckled, and then shared it with our bailiff, who, in turn, shared it with the judge. On the last day of proceedings, the judge was looking at the cartoon on the bench, chuckled, and shared it with the attorneys. They laughed nervously.

On a more serious note - in that same trial, and understanding your desire to present a complete case on behalf of your client, it was apparent that we jurors were losing patience with the plaintiff's counsel. He was being repetitive, and had a hard time managing his documents and list of questions. There's no question in my mind that his case was weakened because he beyond a point of diminishing returns - the possible added value of probing one more point again was overwhelmed by our impatience.
