Automatic Transmissions Preventing Motorcycle Accidents?

To Automatic or Not To Automatic?

Today’s bikers may think automatic and semiautomatic transmissions are
“sissy,” (No offense to you lady riders) but some experts speculate that won’t
be the case in five years. In fact, the brand-new Honda DN-01 lets riders stay balanced,
navigate traffic, accelerate and brake…without hand-squeezing a clutch
and foot-shifting through gears. Although it’s not the first to do so,
it is a new wave version hitting the market this week.

Maybe YOUR motorcycle multi-tasking isn’t dangerous, but could
automatics make the roads safer as demographics change and a whole new
generation of riders hits the roads? Perhaps.

There used to be a significant amount of multi-tasking manual
gear-shifting AUTOS tooling around along side the more easy-riding
automatic cars and trucks. But as of last year, automatics took over
ninety-three percent of autos sales in the United States. Is that also
the future of motor biking? We’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, Bikers, whether you drink the automatic transmission
Kool Aid or not, be sure to keep a clear head as you do one hundred
and one different things, all at the same time, to stay asphalt-afloat
and enjoy your favorite pastime.
